Clara is a part-time bookshop assistant in Tours in her early thirties who spent years saying she'd get around to learning a language and never did -- intimidated by the idea of starting from absolute zero as an adult. A trip to Spain she could barely navigate finally pushed her to try a short, low-pressure method at home instead of a daunting evening class. She started small: a handful of minutes a day, talking to herself while doing the dishes, accepting that sounding silly was part of it. She writes the from-scratch, step-by-step pieces she wishes she'd found when she kept stalling -- as a self-taught beginner, not a teacher. No language diploma, no time studying abroad, just someone who finally stopped putting it off.
